In January, the choir took aprt in the Young Voices Choir at the AO Arena in Manchester. Along with around 10,000 othr school pupils they performed a range of new and old songs to a full venue of around 10,000 people. Over the afternoon they practiced the songs and then performed fantastically in the evening. They even had the opportunity to sing with Heather Small (from M People) and dance with Urban Strides. It was an amazing experience that we can't wait to repeat next year!
On February 15th we held a Valentine's Day Disco afterschool. It was great to see everyone dancing along to the music - even the teachers had a boogie! Thank you to Mr Shaw for being our resident disco DJ - the music and entertainment made it a great success!
On March 29th, we held an Easter Bingo. It was a complete sell-out but we did manage to fit in some extras on the day. We were so lucky to have had such a huge variety of donations that meant there were plenty of prizes - big and small - to be won. Thank you to everyone for supporting this event. The money raised goes towards our new outdoor Reading Shed.
Throughout April, we have our Artwork on exhibition in the Shopping City, Runcorn. The artwork was produced by pupils from Team Bethlehem up to Team Nazareth and are all about the creations used on boats during the war. The children had a great time learning about the different designs as well as making their own boats. Thank you to Miss Steele (our Art Lead) for co-ordinating this.
To celebration the coronation of King Charles, we held a family picnic on the school playground. It was a beautiful afternoon with the sun shining right up to the moment that we started to pack away (then the torrential rain started). It is always lovely to have events for our community to share together and it was lovely seeing so many of our families relaxing, chatting, playing and enjoying being together. I can't wait for our next famiy picnic.
On Sunday 7th May, Amber (Year 3) and Aiden (Year 6) were Flag Bearers at a special Coronation Service for King Charles III. During the service, the flags from all of the commonwealth countries were processioned down the nave as part of this special worship. They both represented our school brilliantly and we are very proud of them both. It is wonderful that we are able to have such unique experiences to offer our pupils.
In May, Team Canann and Eden went to The Heath High School to take part in the 'Song for Every Subject' music festival. They sang a variety of songs linked to various subjects taught in school. This was a great opportunity for our pupils to showcase their amazing singing voices.
We had some fantastic news this week – eight pupils in Team Galilee are going to be published poets in a new poetry book ‘Poetry Towers – Worlds of Wonder’ that will be released at the end of August. Pupils in Team Galilee took part on a competition run by Young Writers who aim to inspire children and young people to enjoy creative writing and reading. All the entries were of a high standard but eight pupils were selected to have their work published in their book – this is an incredible achievement. Look out for book published on August 31st .
During the May holiday, we had the fantastic news that we had been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark to celebrate our commitment to excellence in science teaching and learning. So far, since its national launch in 2010, over 5000 schools across the UK have achieved a prestigious Primary Science Quality Mark. Schools that have achieved a Primary Science Quality Mark have demonstrated a significant commitment to science teaching and learning. The profile and quality of science in each awarded school is very high and so we are very proud of this achievement.
