Kids Matter
Kids Matter - The Vision
Kids Matter is a Christian charity working to reduce the impact of poverty on children. Their founder is a Clinical Psychologist who found being a parent difficult. She recognised that if she still struggled even with a lot of support and financial stability then it could be even harder for families in less privileged positions.
Alongside others in her community, they started developing support, informed by clinical expertise but centred on real world experience and solutions. Kids Matter now trains peer facilitators to run evidence-informed programmes nationwide, building confidence, competence and community for parents and carers facing disadvantages, ultimately enabling their children to thrive.
They partner with local organisations and churches, along with their community networks to run our highly effective, evidence-informed and accessible parenting programmes in communities and in prisons.
The programme equips mums, dads and carers with the tools (confidence, competence and community) they need to build strong relationships and strong families.
Kids Matter - Our Facilitators
Mrs Roberton and Mrs Macpherson attended the four days intense training to become trained Kids Matter facilitators.
By the end of September 2024, they will have completed their first group and will be looking to start the next after October half term.
The sessions are weekly for an hour and a quarter and there are seven sessions in total. Each session has a resource book full of useful information and support. As young parents themselves, both Mrs Robertson and Mrs Macpherson know how difficult the journey of a parent can be and parenting a five year old is much different to parenting an eleven year old, especially in today's society.
If you are interested in joining the sessions, please pop in to school and see them.
The cakes and snacks are worth attending alone!
